The VideoWhisper Conference : Joomla Component Edition is ready. Joomla Video Conference Component

You can test it by registering an account on this website. When you log in, a Video Conference menu will show up in the main menu (on the left, under Home) and you can start testing. The joomla user name (not login username) will be used as chat name.

The component is developed using MVC (model view controller) for Joomla 1.5 (native). This is distributed from VideoWhisper - Video Chat Software.

There is also a free, limited edition for testing, trials and low budget websites.

With the Joomla video chat software component Administrators and Super Administrators are allowed to manage rooms. When creating a room multiple settings can be specified like description, capacity, expiration.

Rights to upload and delete files can also be controlled. With the Joomla Video Conference component these are controlled for regular users from component parameters in administrator area.

Installation Instructions

Before installing, make sure your hosting environment meets all requirements.

1. Copy contents of com_videowhisper_conference\fms_applications in zip file to your applications folder in your fms installation folder.
2. Install the component zip file from Extensions > Install/Uninstall in joomla administrator interface.
3. Froom joomla administrator interface fill rtmp path in component parameters from Components > VideoWhisper.com Video Conference.This usually has this form: rtmp://your-rtmp-host.com/videowhisper .
4. Add a link to the video conference to your menu. It must be an external, absolute link (with full website url including domain) to your joomla installation for component com_videowhisper_conference, view vw, format raw:
http://www.replace-this-with-your-domain.com/index.php?option=com_videowhisper_conference&view=vw&format=raw

Screen Sharing

If your publishers want to broadcast their screen (when playing a game, using a program, tutoring various computer skills) they can do that easily just by using a screen sharing driver that simulates a webcam from desktop contents. Read more about Desktop Screen Sharing with Flash .

I just wonder if there is a Community Builder 1.2 (CB) plugin too? www.joomlapolis.com

Many uses CB and this would be great if there is a tab in the CB profile as now with the menu on the left...

what you think about that idea?

I would use the free version and translate it into Portuguese, but to be in flash do not know how I can contribute a internationaliz ation.
If you need a translation of the component for the Portuguese language, contact me, I did not see if you can not make it down since I imagine that being in flash does not have a template for internationaliz ation

We\'ll probably integrate a translation method in next release. :idea:

Currently you can just translate the texts from images as those are loaded from external image files (like the SEND button).

I\'m not sure where the video went. Everything checks out, including flash recognition of the camera, but no video appears.

I like the format, I like the features, I just don\'t know how to get the picture.

Is there something I should know? Does the file have to be saved? Does the camcorder have to be on a specific setting like play or record?

You need a webcam that works with flash - all regular webcams should work fine. You can select webcam by clicking the webcam panel. It must support 320x240 resolution at 15fps. Some high definition camcorders will not output anything for lower resolution settings - try using a standard webcam that can be purchased for $10-$30.

Sometimes problems are related to rtmp server congestions: try reloading the application.

We are using Jomlapolis.com Community Builder and cms Joomla..

I have everything working, the streaming server etc. It all connects without error.

While I can get my webcam to display my local picture, when I add the other members of the room into the picture it will not display their video feed.

On their PC their local webcam is working fine as well.

Great product, nice layout, but only if I could get it to work.

You need a public rtmp server (not a localhost or computer behind a gateway without public ip). On that rtmp server (red5/fmis) the videowhisper application must be installed and running: http://www.videowhisper.com/?p=RTMP+Applications .
Sometimes rtmp servers, especially older versions, have streaming crashed for strange reasons and you need to restart the rtmp server.

What all these conferencing systems are missing is the abilitiy to screencast your desktop to the audience.

This is a must. Whiteboards? Who cares? What is the point? Being able to screencast your desktop, and/or your webcam at the same time, that is where it is at.

Screen sharing is not supported directly by flash. It can be done using special software that simulates a webcam with screen sharing instead.

What client network settings are required to use video conferencing?
From behing a Squid i have "NetConnection.Connect.Failed" after "Connecting to RTMP server".
